Cavill is the New Superman

British actor Henry Cavill has been cast in the title role in Warner Bros.' Superman reboot to be directed by Zack Snyder and produced by Christopher Nolan.

Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures officially announced Sunday that the 27-year-old actor -- perhaps best known for his role on The Tudors and who will next be seen as "Theseus" inImmortals -- has won the role after a long search.

Snyder said in a statement, "In the pantheon of superheroes,Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen. I also join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield."

This isn't Cavill's first Superman rodeo, having been a leading contender for the part back when Brett Ratner and McG were attached to direct Superman Returns (which, as you know,Bryan Singer ended up making with Brandon Routh).

Cavill was also the runner-up to Daniel Craig for the role of James Bond in Casino Royale, but was ultimately deemed too young for the role. He is also said to have auditioned for the title role in Batman Begins

David Goyer scripted the new Superman film. In addition to Nolan, the reboot will be produced by Charles RovenEmma Thomas and Deborah Snyder. The film is slated for a December 2012 release.

Mexican Authorities Seize Homemade Marijuana-Hurling Catapult At The Border

Smuggling drugs into the U.S. has become such a complicated and high-tech affair, with cartels building sophisticated tunnel networks and stealthy submarines to get their goods around the watchful eye of customs and border patrol agents. But a group of Mexican drug runners recently applied an 8th-century approach to their profession, using a homemade, trailer-mounted catapult to hurl bales of marijuana over the border fence.
Mexican soldiers, tipped off by U.S. National Guard troops monitoring the area with surveillance cameras, seized a few dozen pounds of marijuana, a sport-utility vehicle, and the catapult it was towing near the small town of Naco near the Mexico-Arizona border on Friday. The smugglers had already fled the scene.
The catapult was found about 20 yards from the fence, standing roughly ten feet tall and prepped to launch several 4.4-pound bales of pot into the United States. And from what we can gather from the few grainy photos available, it looks like a legit piece of elementary medieval siege weaponry.
Most puzzling is how to classify the lobbing of bulk marijuana across an international border using a machine of not-so-modern warfare. While it doubtless runs afoul of U.S. drug laws, from a diplomatic standpoint is this considered an act of war or a foreign aid package?

NBC Orders Wonder Woman Pilot

Im not a fan of Wonder Woman, but seeing a hot piece of ass running around on TV would be nice especially if it is somebody like Jessica Biel.
Looks like Wonder Woman may be back on TV soon after all. It's been a turbulent month for the DC heroine, as Warner Bros brought their new David E. Kelley scripted version of the character to the networks, only to see them all pass. Now though, Deadline reports NBC has made a surprise move and orderedWonder Woman as a pilot.

When Deadline reported the story on the networks passing, it was said that for NBC, it simply wasn't a consideration because the network was in such a state of flux and the project was too big for them to take on at the time. Now though, just a couple of weeks later, Comcast taking over NBC has been finalized and new president Robert Greenblatt is going forward with some big moves – with Wonder Woman a particularly notable one.

We now know David E. Kelley wasn't being overly optimistic when I spoke to him last week, in the wake of the networks initially passing on Wonder Woman, and he said, "Everybody is confident that we're gonna see it."
- DC Comics
Deadline has the first bit of plot description we've seen for Wonder Woman, describing it as, "a reinvention of the iconic D.C. comic in which Wonder Woman -- aka Diana Prince -- is a vigilante crime fighter in L.A. but also a successful corporate executive and a modern woman trying to balance all of the elements of her extraordinary life."

In the same report, Deadline also gives updates on two other potential series from big name producers that NBC has been developing. It seems NBC is passing on Ghost Angeles, a supernatural drama from Josh Schwartz (Chuck, The OC) that would have starred Rachel Bilson.

Meanwhile, the J.J. Abrams produced Odd Jobs is being put on the backburner and will be looked at as a potential project for the next pilot season. Odd Jobs would re-team Lost stars Terry O'Quinn and Michael Emerson, in the story of two retired black-ops agents. Deadline notes that the script to that project, by Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec (whose collaborations with Abrams include Alias and the upcoming Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol) came in very late this pilot season.

Now that we know that at the very least, a Wonder Woman pilot will be shot, no doubt casting speculation will begin to heat up. Check out what we had to say on the subject in our Who Should Play Wonder Woman? feature from when development on the newWonder Woman series was announced in the fall [Click Here!].

Mayhem Miller Fighting His Dad

This is old, but still funny.  He tells a story about him and his dad fighting in a Eckard's parking lot.  Its a little lengthy but still worth the read.

I'm a myspace whore, just like anyone else here, and sometimes I don't write blogs when I should. I suppose it's because I want to hold myself to a higher standard than the average myspace bimbo who blogs about retarded shit every day twice a day, but I need to be more disciplined with my writing, so here's the infamous Eckard Drug Store parking lot fight story, between two titans of street fighting, a 16 year old Jason "Not yet Mayhem" Miller and the original "Iceman" Mike Miller- my father.

The hot August day was going as any other, a pissed off jerk of a 16 year old (me) bitching and moaning about the regular teenage jibberish that now if I were to hear a teen saying that I'd tell them "STFU" with those letters, not even the words.

I was riding in the middle row of the vans bench seats, hunched over whining in my parents' ears about going to get my drivers license or something appropriately 16 years old, my dad driving and mom in the passenger seat. As we pulled into the parking space, the conversation took a negative turn and my mom got snappy, and jumped out of the van, as I said "You don't gotta be a bitch about it!" Which wasn't too strange around that time in my life. Unfortunately, and unexcpectedly, that hit a chord with my dad and before I could blink twice *SMACK* he straight jack-slapped me, backhand Sampress style. Which fired me up something fierce.

"One of these days someone's gonna beat your ass for that shit!" I spouted off.

I didn't mean that day.

My dad boxed a bit in the day, and thanks to the bodybuilding movement in the seventies he was (and still is) a certified meat-truck. He came shufflestepping around the backside of the van, one hand cocked in the "Miller Fighting position" which is like a boxing stance, with your right hand near your waist, which I guess gives you more time to load up on an over-hand right, and makes it easier to wrestle when the time comes.

When I saw him shufflestepping, immediately I was shocked- I thought the shit was over- "bitch"*SMACK* ok, we're even, nope. Not a chance. Once I realized "it's on" I got into the Miller Stance and started circling, ready to put it on my old man, regardless of whether or not the 82nd Airborne had hardened him into a killing machine.

In the two to three seconds that we sized each other up, I thought to my recent viewing of the UFC the one where Marco Ruas fought a much bigger opponent, Paul Varlens and beat him by leg-kicking him- essentially "chopping down the tree," I figured since I'm giving up 30 pounds, I can employ that strategy, even though I had never even kicked a heavy bag at this point in my life.

So I threw my hardest- soccer inspired thai kick to his lead leg. My dad didn't even blink at my flimsy kick, just unloaded his right hand into my snotbox, popping it like a ketchup packet. I had wrestled a bit, so I just shot in on a single leg, a bit dazed, now blind and bleeding, my dad sprawling and potshotting me like silly. I still remember how hot the brand new parking lot was- burning my legs as I tried to get him down. Had we not been father and son, it would've been smart of him to push my face down to give me the roadrash/burn combo of the year, but he wasn't into fighting dirty. However, at this point in the losing battle, I was. From my terrible position, now underneath my pops, I reached up and did the number 1 rule in the UFC. "No fish hooking" I went for it. Luckily he didn't bite off my finger, and once he got loose, up walks the nicest pair of polished shoes I had seen in a while.

A uniformed police officer. "Yeah, that's right! You're going to jail!" I shouted like a punk kid who just got his ass beat would. "Take his ass!" All I hear is "Sir, do you need help with your son?" Goddamnit, I can't win. So I ran a bloody 2 miles home, getting stung the whole time by mosquitos.

I guess I learned a few things from that incident. 1 Don't call Mom a bitch. 2. Hands up on a leg kick. 3. Love your family, it's much easier on your nose that way.

King Webb Challenge Match at Seguin MMA

Here is a cool vid that I had in my favorites for a while now.  Here is the description from the vid, which you should read so you know the whole story.  If you don't want to watch the whole thing just skip to 2:10.

So this guy drops in and watches my Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class and he tells me that the art does not work and that his TKD, Boxing, Akido, shootfighting blend can defeat Jiu-Jitsu/MMA in a REAL Streetfight. It irritated me to say the least but I blew him off and he left the school. He then proceeded to call my wife and challenging me to a match numerous times for about 6 weeks. I declined, but then he started telling people in town I was afraid of him and even went and challenged my 54 year old Thai Boxing instructor. The next time he called I accepted his challenge and this is a video of the 2 matches.

The first match I get him with a triangle choke. The second match you have to watch to see. Please note that my left foot is broken and that is why I did not throw any kicks with it. Enjoy.
